MACK Cinema Club presents 'Outfitumentary' by K8 Hardy

To celebrate the release of K8 Hardyโs new book ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด, MACK Cinema Club presents a special screening of ๐๐ถ๐ต๐ง๐ช๐ต๐ถ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ข๐ณ๐บ (2016) on Tuesday 20 October at ICA, London.
In 2001, artist and filmmaker K8 Hardy set out to document her daily outfits on video. Over an eleven year period, until the camera broke, she captured these outfits and outfitting on a daily bases. She used the same shitty, mini DV camera and filmed in ever-changing living spaces and art studios in New York. What emerged is a record of the way a young, lesbian feminist dressed and styled her 'coming of age', as well as an examination of coded fashion statements. โ

Hardy's new book ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด brings together all fifty photographs from Hardy's 'Position Series' (2007-12) alongside previously unseen images, situating Hardyโs work within the DIY fashion, art and thrift scenes of queer subcultures in early 2000s New York. Through self-objectification, Hardy challenges the objectification of the female body, queers portraiture and questions exclusionary art institutions.โ
The screening will be followed byย a Q&A between K8 Hardy and artist & curator Nina Manandhar.โ
