2026 Submissions

We are pleased to announce our submissions windows for 2026.

In each window we are looking for proposals for particular types of book, with specific parameters. Each window is overseen by a member of our editorial board and lasts a month. We will respond to projects we are interested in pursuing by the end of the following month.

It typically takes between one and two years to develop and prepare a book for publication. We work with all our authors in an engaged editorial process. In this sense, projects with urgent time-sensitive requirements are not appropriate for these submissions windows. We regret that we do not have the capacity to respond to projects we don’t feel are the right fit, or to offer feedback on these. If you have not heard from us four weeks after the deadline, please assume that unfortunately the project is not for us this time.

All submissions should be sent within the dates of the window to submissions@mackbooks.co.uk, with “Submission: [Name of window]” as subject line. They should be sent in the form of a single PDF and a completed submissions form, which can be downloaded here: Word / PDF. Specific parameters for submission are included for each window below. We cannot consider any submissions sent as WeTransfer, Dropbox, or other download links.

Any submissions sent outside these windows cannot be considered.

Thank you for taking the time to submit.

Body/Politics
Open to submissions 1–31 January 2026
Editor: Bruno Ceschel

Body/Politics is a new SPBH Editions series presenting essays on ground-breaking ideas about the human body in relation to racial identity, sexuality, and politics. Following the acclaimed first titles (Monogamous Mind, Polyamorous Terror by Brigitte Vasallo and Against Ageism: A Queer Manifesto by Simon(e) van Saarloos) we are seeking bold, provocative writing that treats the body as a site of power, struggle, and possibility. Submissions should include an abstract of a completed essay that has not been published in English (we can consider essays written in other languages intended for translation). We welcome urgent, challenging voices that expand our understanding of how bodies are experienced, controlled, imagined, and liberated today.

Cinema
Open to submissions 1–31 March 2026
Editor: Liv Constable-Maxwell

During this window we invite proposals for books engaging with cinema in its many iterations. In particular we are seeking books with fresh perspectives on contemporary and historical cinema, books focused on particular auteurs, hybrid projects at the intersection of cinema, visual art, and literature, as well as written engagements with cinema and classic film. Please include details of your project within the submissions form. Submissions for text-based projects should also include a writing sample, totalling no more than five pages; submissions for Image-based projects must include a draft PDF of images.

MACK Fellowship
Open to submissions 1–30 April
Editor: Liv Constable-Maxwell

The MACK fellowship welcomes proposals from emerging researchers, writers, and artists for projects investigating an area of cultural history deserving of and lacking in critical attention. We are especially interested in projects including, but not limited to, untold historic lineages, overlooked collectives and communities, specific movements of activism and collaboration, and artists who work in the intersection of art, photography, and literature in new ways. The successful candidate will research, edit, write the primary text for, and manage the production of a book on the subject to be published by MACK.

The fellowship involves an estimated commitment of 2 days a week over a 6-month period or a block of approximately 40–50 days within an agreed time frame, and can be adapted to work and life commitments. The successful applicant will receive a fee of £8,000.

Please submit a CV and a covering letter of no more than two pages outlining your proposed research project (including key thesis, figures, events, movements, and so on), relevant past research and proven track record, and the names of two referees. Image-based projects should also include a PDF of works. Successful candidates will be invited for an interview.

Debut photography book
Open to submissions 1–31 May 2026
Editors: Michael Mack and Iman Hakimi

In this window we welcome proposals by artists who have not previously had a book published. We are looking to support emerging artists and find new voices in the field of photography, and for projects that approach the book form in fresh and experimental ways, whether through the character or themes of the work, engagements between image and text, or other aspects. Please submit a pdf of a draft sequence of your project.

Photography
Open to submissions 1–30 June 2026
Editor: Morgan Crowcroft-Brown

In this window we encourage submissions from artists working with photography, with a special interest in voices and perspectives that are often underrepresented in the photobook landscape. We want work that expands our visual vocabulary and challenges our expectations of photography’s potential. Please submit a pdf of a draft sequence of your project.

Art writing
Open to submissions 1–31 July 2026
Editor: Louis Rogers

In this window we are looking for written engagements with art of any kind which are ambitious about what can be gained or created in writing about art. We are interested in – but by no means limited to – essays that are personal as well as critical, that engage with overlooked or unusual forms, that tackle complex subjects and responses, and that engage with practice, reception, or the art industry as well as works themselves. Please submit an abstract of your project plus a writing sample, totalling no more than five pages.
