About Golden Apple of the Sun

In late 2020, Teju Cole made a series of meditative still-lives in his kitchen in Cambridge, MA, capturing the subtle and spontaneous constellations of daily life. ‘Golden Apple of the Sun’ presents these photographs alongside a new long-form essay, as wide-ranging in its concerns – hunger, history, mourning, slavery, painting, and poetry – as the images are restrained in theirs.
